Synopsis:
Obituary. Blair Enterprise
31 May 1934. Mrs. A.G. JENSEN Rites Held Today. Wife of
Representative Succumbs to Long Illness. Mrs. Andrew G. JENSEN,
wife of State Representative JENSEN, and a native of Washington
county, died at her farm home west of Blair at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Obituary. Blair Enterprise,
7 Jun 1934. Many Attend Rites For Mrs. A.G. JENSEN. Anna
Wulf JENSEN was born May 31, 1880 on a farm west of Blair in the Orum
neighborhood where she was reared to maturity. She was christened and
confirmed in the Lutheran church at Orum. She was married on March
14th, 1900 to Andrew G. JENSEN and immediately moved with her husband
to the farm where she passed away. After a residence of nine years on
the farm they moved to a home in Blair east of the Dana college that the two
sons might have the opportunity of a high school education. After the
sons had become high school graduates the family moved to Fremont where the
husband was elected to represent Dodge county in the state legislature.
A year ago last April the family returned to the beautiful farm home which
proved to the be first and last home of the deceased as the wife of A.G.
JENSEN. Mrs. JENSEN had spent most of her life in the
vicinity west of Blair and had formed many lasting friendships, the sort of
friendships that carry on through life and then become memories never to be
forgotten. She spent two months in Lincoln while her husband served in
the last legislative session and made many new friends there, many of whom
were present at the funeral ceremonies. In her neighborhood she took
part in the social activities and was for years a member of the Thursday
Afternoon Papio club in which she took much interest. She loved her
neighbors and friends and idolized her family and was an ideal wife and
mother. She was stricken on February 26th and never recovered and in
spite of all that loving hands and anxious hearts could do she grew weaker
and slipped peacefully away on May 29. Deceased was a consistent
member of the Baptist church and her old pastor, Rev. C.M. FOREMAN,
of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was called to give the funeral oration in the
presence of an exceptional large attendance of neighbors, relatives, friends
and men of note who had served with the husband in the legislature.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, A.G. JENSEN, of Blair,
her sons, Harland and Raymond and their wives Eleanor and Leola, four
grandchildren, Patricia, Katherine, Ann Genene, Nancy Lou and Allen Gordon,
all of Schuyler, an aged mother, Mrs. Wiebke WULF, of Blair, three
sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Henry L. KUHR, of Blair, Mrs. Carl C.
REEH, of Blair, Mrs. William KUHR, of Blair, Detluf WULF
of the Rose Hill neighborhood and Fred WULF of the Orum vicinity,
besides many other friends and relatives. her father preceded her in
death having passed away about 45 years ago.
Obituary. Blair Pilot-Tribune, 8 Sep 1938. Mrs. WULF Dies Here At Age 83. Prominent German Woman Raised Family Alone After Mate Died. Mrs. Wiebke WULF, 83, well-known German resident of the community since 1876, who raised her four daughters and two sons from childhood after her husband's death half a century ago, and at the same time developed extensive farmland holdings, died Sunday at her home, 408 west Lincoln street. Death was attributed to infirmities of old age. Mentally alert and physically active almost to the end, Mrs. WULF only two weeks ago had observed her birthday anniversary. As Wiebke PETERS she was born at Rendsburg, Bentenburg, Germany, August 23, 1855. She came to Washington Co March 28, 1876 with Detlef WULF, who had come here previously to establish a homestead in Lincoln township and then returned for his bride. Their marriage was performed here on April 3, 1876 by the Rev. H.C. Jul FRESE, sr., German Lutheran pastor, who was the father of the present pastor of Trinity church here. A number of years later, with farm debts still outstanding, Mr. WULF died. Her children ranging in age from three to 12 years, Mrs. WULF undertook the task of raising them and at the same time paying off the farm debt. That she was successful was shown by the fact that when she retired and moved into Blair 30 years ago, she had not only cleared the debts on the home place but also had acquired considerably more valuable land. Mrs. WULF is survived by two daughters Mrs. Henry KUHR and Mrs. Charles REEH, and by two sons, Detlef and Fred WULF. A daughter, Mrs. Andrew JENSEN died four years ago. Also listed among the survivors are 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all living in this vicinity. Mrs. WULF, confirmed as a member of the German Lutheran church while a girl in Germany, had been a member of Trinity Lutheran church here during her 30 years of residence in Blair, and had been active in affairs of the Ladies Aid. Because of the large number of persons desiring to attend the funeral, the services were held at First Methodist church yesterday at 2 p.m. The Rev. H.C. Jul FRESE officiated and burial was in Blair cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Albert KUHR, Clarence KUHR, Bernard WULF, James WULF, Freddie WULF and Harland JENSEN.
Obituary. Blair Enterprise,
8 Sep 1938. Aged Settler, 83, Buried Wednesday. Came to Co
in 1876. Dies at the Age of 83 Years. Mrs. Wiebke WULF,
another of the early settlers of this Co, passed away Sunday, September
4, at the age of 83 years. She was born in Germany August 23, 1855 and
when only twenty years of age came to this Co, landing here on March 28,
1876. Shortly after her arrival she was married to Detluf WULF,
who had homesteaded in Lincoln township. Mr. WULF had made the
trip back to Germany for the purpose of bringing her to the new country and
thus on April 3, 1876 they were married by Rev. H. FRESE, father of
Rev. H.C. Jul FRESE, present minister of the Blair German Lutheran
church. The young couple immediately went farming and were happy in
their efforts to build up a home on the prairie. About fifty years ago
the husband died but the wife and their six children remained on the farm.
She not only reared them all to maturity but managed in the meantime to buy
and pay for another farm of 160 acres. Thirty years ago she retired
from the farm and moved to Blair where her declining years were spent in
peace and comfort. She was a good mother and a good neighbor and her
friends were limited only by her circle of acquaintances for to know her was
to respect her. She leaves in her immediate family three daughters,
Mrs. Henry KUHR, Mrs. C.C. REEH, Mrs. William F. KUHR
and two sons, Detluf and Fred all of Blair. One daughter, Mrs. Andrew
G. JENSEN died four years ago. Also surviving her are sixteen
grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Funeral services were
held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church with Rev. FRESE in
charge and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

MARVIN, editor of the Beatrice Daily Sun and the Weekly Democrat, died at his home in Beatrice, Neb., after a few days' illness of pneumonia. Mr. MARVIN attended the meeting of the State Press association in Lincoln, and on returning home, immediately went to bed, but his condition was not thought to be serious but he gradually grew worse. Mr. MARVIN was one of the pioneer newspaper men of the state. He entered a newspaper office at the age of twelve years and had been actively connected with the newspaper business since that time. He came to Nebraska in 1859, locating at Brownville, where he worked on the Nebraska Advertiser for a number of years. Later he removed to Falls City, where he began the publication of a paper. About thirty years ago he located in Beatrice, and on December 19, 1879, began the publication of the Weekly Democrat, which has been under his charge since that time.
