Synopsis:
Pine Run Cemetery is located on Route TR 205, 1st country road right north of Unionport - a long, winding road with 3 gates to the cemetery.
From History of Belmont and Jefferson Counties, 1880, p. 291: This building was erected for store purposes by Andrew RALSTON in 1853. He started his son, John RALSTON, in the mercantile business, who continued for a time.
Obituary (handwritten). Deacon George W. RALSTON died at his late residence in Smithfield July 22, 1902, at the advanced age of 79 years. After a lingering illness of many months. Deacon RALSTON was one of the constituent members of the church, was dismissed by letter June 2 1867 but removed to the church community again and was received by letter April 24, 1875, has lived a consistent Christian life. A man full of faith, but not able to do much church work in recent years because of declining health and distance from church. A man quiet and unpretentious in his manner but strong in his convictions and unswerving in integrity. He anxiously awaited the survivors "to come up higher." He leaves to mourn his departure a Widow and large family of children. Funeral largely attended by sympathizing friends. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Funeral services conducted by Pastor Kreager assisted by Rev. Chester RALSTON, Grandson of the deceased.
Obituary (handwritten). Sister Mary RALSTON widow of the late Deacon George RALSTON died March 27, 1912 at the advanced age 78. Sister RALSTON was one of the consistent members of this church. Sister RALSTON was loyal to her church and faithful to her vows. Her husband died about ten years ago so in her later years she had a lonlier way. She retained her mental faculty until the end which was peaceful and happy with a tender smile for all she clasped the hand of her son and daughter and whispered good-bye the other shore is near. Along the way her every duty was faithfully performed and her memory will remain a benediction to all who knew her. She was a devoted mother to a large family and "all arise and call her blessed." This aged mother knew what it was to have a religion for everyday. Christian living with her was not confined to one day in seven but in cheerfulness and confidence she walked her quiet way with a smile and word of cheer for all. She will long be remembered for her thoughtfulness of others her Christian spirit endeared her to all who knew her. Interment in Northern Cemetery Smithfield Ohio beside the remains of her husband.

Obituary (handwritten). Catherine MERRYMAN RALSTON wife of Bro George W. RALSTON. Died Sept. 2 1910 after a brief illness in her 58 year. Sister RALSTON lived a consistent Christian life for 41 years, she having been baptized in to the fellowship of the Mt. Moriah Church Dec. 12, 1869. Sister RALSTON was a home loving mother, where her efforts for good most largely extended and where her influence is most marked. The testimony is left that each of her children, all now members of church, became christians through the influence of mother. A very high tribute to any parent, every day was a day lived for God. A husband three sons five daughters seven Grand-Children and two sisters are left to miss the tender love and cheerful smile of one who has now passed on a little in advance of those left to mourn her departure. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Funeral services conducted by her Master Rev. M.L. CUNNINGHAM.
Obituary, 24 Oct 1973. Frank RALSTON. Frank C. RALSTON, 85, of RD 1, Bloomingdale, died Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, where he had been a patient for several days. He was a retired mail carrier and farmer. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church near Bloomingdale. Mr. Ralston was born Oct. 10, 1888 near Smithfield, the son of the late George W. and Catherine MERRYMAN RALSTON. The body has been removed to the Blackburn Funeral Home in Hopedale, pending arrangements.
History of Mount Moriah Church. Prayer Meetings and Sunday School Picnics. During the earlier days of this church's history, there were Wednesday night prayer meetings held. This was a more relaxed and informal atmosphere than the regular Sunday service. Dora B. RALSTON was a member of Mount Moriah Church for many years and she would sometimes be the only person at a prayer meeting. She would have her own prayer service at the church all alone, just her and God. Dora also taught Bible School and made sure that her students learned Psalms from the Bible. One of her students, Mildred McCULLOUGH still remembers some of the Psalms she learned as a child from Dora. At one time there was a Dora RALSTON Missionary Society. When Dora RALSTON died in 1965 she was the church's oldest active member. At one time there was an annual Sunday School picnic held in the church yard. Tables were placed in one corner of the then fenced in area. This was also during the time when people used horses, buggies, surreys, wagons or even sleds to get to church! There was a special space for the horses. Some people that regularly attended this church built sheds to protect their horses while they were inside worshipping God. The horses would be inside the shed, sheltered from the elements and the wagons or surreys would be outside the shed. These picnics continued into the 1940's. A lot of the people attending this church traveled several miles. Some people that had no other means would simply arrive on horseback, on foot, or on their tractor.
Obituary, April 8, 1965. Miss Dora RALSTON. Hopedale - Funeral services will be held for Miss Dora RALSTON, 84, of RD 1, Bloomingdale, Friday at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church near Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Mr. Robert GETSCHMAN officiating. Miss RALSTON died Wednesday in the home of her nephew, Everett DODDS. Burial will be made in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Miss RALSTON leaves a brother, Frank RALSTON and a sister, Mrs. Daisy MAINE, both at home. Friends may call at the Blackburn Funeral Home this afternoon and evening.

FOREMAN, named therein as Executor and the Court fixed the 5th day of November AD 1881 at 10 O'clock A.M. as the time for hearing said application and issued a Notice to all the next of kin of the deceased, residing in this State, of the time and place of hearing said application and delivered the same to said William T. FOREMAN, to be served on the parties by him. Amon LEMMON, Probate Judge. In the Matter of the last Will and testament of John RALSTON, deceased. Probate Court, Harrison County, Ohio, November 5th A.D. 1881. The last Will and testament of John RALSTON, late of Harrison County deceased was this day produced in open Court and it appearing that due notice of the application for the probate of said Will and the time and place of hearing the same has been given to all the next of kind of said Testator residing in this State thereupon said application came to be heard by the Court And Samuel FOREMAN and William T. FOREMAN the subscribing witnesses to said Will appeared and in open Court on oath testified to the due execution of said Will, which testimony was reduced to writing and signed by said witnesses, and it appearing by said testimony that said Will was duly executed and attested and that said testator John RALSTON at the time he executed said will was of full age of sound mind and memory and not under any restraint. It is ordered that said Will be and the same is hereby admitted to Probate and Record and that said Will and testimony be recorded. Amon LEMMON Probate Judge, Probate Court. The State of Ohio, Harrison County, Personally appeared in open Court Samuel FOREMAN and William T. FOREMAN the subscribing witnesses to the last Will and testament of John RALSTON deceased who being duly sworn according to law to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, in relation to the execution of said Will depose and say that the paper before them purporting to be the will and testament of John RALSTON now deceased is the Will of said deceased that they were present at the execution of the same at the request of the Testator subscribed their names to the same as witnesses, in his presence and that they saw the said John RALSTON, deceased, sign and seal Will and heard him acknowledge the same to be his last Will and testament; that said John RALSTON at the time of making, signing and sealing said Will as of legal age of sound mind and memory, and under no undue or unlawful restraint whatsoever. Samuel FOREMAN William T. FOREMAN. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 5th day of Nov. A.D. 1881, Amon LEMMON Probate Judge. Examination by D. CUNNINGHAM, Attorney for heirs. Samuel FOREMAN. John RALSTON at the time he executed this Will was about 70 years of age as I am informed. The Will was written by me at my house we were in a room he came to my house by himself I don't know that any person but him and myself were present he had never spoken to me before that time about writing a will. Mrs. RALSTON is a sister of mine she had not spoken to me about writing a will. He transacted his business for years before he made the Will. She his wife probably transacted some of his business. She did not dictate to him so far as far [sic] as I know I don't know whether he consulted her about his business probably he did I never told John COPELAND that he was controled by his wife of late years he has not been capable to perform much business I have not been present at the paying out of money by them but think she has paid out the most of the money of late years but consulted with him about the same. The paper was presented to me by Mrs. RALSTON in presence of Henry COPELAND and others. It was then sealed up, we did not open it. When I wrote the Will Mr. RALSTON said he wanted his wife to have Fifty Acres off the West part of the farm. I am not in position but think he came to my house on foot the day I wrote the Will. I wrote this Will according to his direction/ it was read over for him after it was written and he expressed himself satisfied and signed it. His unfitness for business of late years grows out of his age and feebleness. Samuel FOREMAN. Examination by D. CUNNINGHAM Attorney for heirs. William T. FOREMAN. To the best of my knowledge Mr. RALSTON signed the Will in my presence I know. I heard him acknowledge at my father's house. I was not in the room when they were writing it. I did not hear the Will read then and did not know at the time that I was named Executor in the Will. I was 21 years of age when the Will was written. At that time Mr. RALSTON was about as well as men of his age usually are. Within the last 3 or 4 years I have heard her (his wife) say he was not capable of attending to business. I never saw him or her pay out any money before the time of making the Will. It was represented to me at the time to be his Will I did not read it. He was a man who talked but little. I think he was a man who asserted himself and not easily influenced. It was some time after the making of the Will when I first knew I was named Executor. My father told me was the first I knew of it. W.T. FOREMAN. Sworn to and signed in my presence by said Samuel FOREMAN and William T. FOREMAN respectfully this 5th day of November A.D. 1881. Amon LEMMON, Probate Judge. Election of Mary RALSTON (widow) to take under Will. Probate Court, Harrison County, Ohio, November 5th, 1881. This day come Mary RALSTON, widow of John RALSTON, late of said county deceased, and after a full Explanation by the Court to her, of the provisions of the Will of said John RALSTON, deceased, and of her rights under the same, and also of her rights under the laws, as such widow, in case she did not elect to take under said Will, thereupon in opn Court she made her Election to take under and abide by the Provisions of said Will. Amon LEMMON, Probate Judge.

Obituary. Onarga, IL, 1902. Luther Berge GREENLEAF was born in Hartford, Connecticut, August 11, 1834. The family consisted of three brothers, only one of whom survived. Mr. GREENLEAF came to Illinois with an uncle when only 7 years old. Later the parents came and settled in Peoria, where the children grew to manhood. Luther Berge attended school and graduated at Knox College, Galesburg. After graduation he studied law in the office of Robt. INGERSOLL, and was admitted to the bar in Peoria. But instead of practicing law, he went into the office of the Peoria Transcript, where he had charge of the literary work of the paper, a calling in which he took great pleasure, and he remained there a number of years. From there he went to Kansas City, where in 1877 he was married to Hester J. BALDING, whom he had known in Peoria. Later he lived in several places in Kansas, part of the time connected with a mattress factory he established in Salina, and part of the time as a traveling salesman. Seventeen years ago his health began to fail, and he with his little family came back to Illinois, and settled in Onarga. Most of the years since have been those of suffering more severe than many knew, and this has gradually wore out a naturally strong and robust constitution. For five years he has scarcely left the house, and most of the time confined to his bed and to his room. In May 1889 Mr. GREENLEAF united with the Presbyterian church under Rev. MILLAR. During all his long sickness his confidence in his Savior never faltered and he often referred to his love and confidence in his first pastor, and to the direction of his mind in that experience. He expressed his readiness to go and said that he trusted entirely in his Savior, that however unworthy, Christ was sure to accept those who gave themselves to Him. His wife and six children are left behind, and most faithfully have they ministered unto him in this long sickness and have borne the burden cheerfully and uncomplainingly. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were, Mrs. G.M. BAGLEY and son, and Mrs. Robt. HIBLO and children, of Hoisington, Kansas, and Walter BALDING and wife, of Milford. All returned to their homes Monday except Landon BAGLEY , who will remain.

Obituary. Lima News, 20 Jul 2013. Helen Lucille BOLLENBACHER, 89, died at 9:34 p.m. May 7, 2007, at the Highland Manor, Mesquite, Nevada. She was born May 24, 1917, in Lima to Joseph Daniel and Jennie May HOWARD WARD who preceded her in death along with her three brothers and five sisters. With Helen's passing has come the end to a story about a family beloved that loved and looked after one another through times of depression, war, prosperity and death. Helen was a 1936 graduate of Lima Central High School. On May 6, 1943, after five years as a single parent to her daughter, Nancy ROCHELLE, Helen married Navy Machinist Mate Walter "Gene" BOLLENBACHER. In the years to follow, Helen stoically incorporated into her life Nancy's unexpected death on February 22, 1969 and later Gene's death on May 12, 1998, She will be remembered for her courage in the face of death and determination to help others who struggled with life's greatest misfortune. Helen retired in 1978 from her Credit Manager position with the May Company Department Store in Canoga Park, California. She and her husband then moved back to Lima to enjoy more fully their close relationships with family and with the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Stars, and American Legion Post they were active in while living in Lima in the 1950's. After her husband's death Helen moved to Mesquite to live next to her daughter and a few years later she moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to live near her son. The last few years of her life were spent in assisted living where she received guidance and care managing rapidly advancing Alzheimer's disease to which she succumbed and was liberated to join family on the other side of life's rainbow. Helen is survived by her second and third children, Patti Jo SAUNDERS and Walter "Skip" BOLLENBACHER, Jr. as well as seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her love of family and the immutable bonds this love creates extended to all she touched, with assurance to each that they were important and valued. Helen's adventures with life were diverse, and replete with experiences and challenges that progressively rewarded her desire to explore the unknown. Louisa May Alcott may have captures the essence of who Helen was when she said, "Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead." A memorial service and celebration of Helen's life are being planned for this summer in the full sunshine for her accomplished aspirations to shine for all to reflect upon. Her remains will be placed next to her husband and just a few feet from her daughter, Nancy, and her parents at the Ward Cemetery on State Route 81 East. Graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m., July 27, 2013 at Ward Cemetery, Lima, OH.

From Commemorative Biographical Record of Harrison and Carroll, OH by J.H. BEERS and Co., Chicago, 1891, p. 480. L.B. RALSTON, one of the most highly respected citizens of German Township, Harrison County, is a son of Lewis W. and Eleanor (MOORHEAD) RALSTON. Lewis W. was a son of Andrew RALSTON, whose father, mother, sister and brother were murdered by the Indians in 1761, in Adams County, Penn. Andrew and one sister being the only survivors of the family; Andrew, at the time was eight years old, and his sister was younger, and both were bound out to different families in Adams County. Their paternal ancestors were of Scotch descent. When the Revolutionary War broke out, Andrew promptly enlisted in the colonial army, and served faithfully all through the struggle, receiving only a slight wound in the side of this head, at the battle of Brandywine. At the close of the war he returned home, and soon after married Miss Sophia WALTERMEYER, of Adams County, Penn., a lady of German descent. Andrew's sister married a gentleman in Pittsburgh, the name being unknown to the survivors of the RALSTON family. In 1814 Andrew RALSTON went to Bloomfield, Jefferson Co., Ohio, where he purchased 160 acres of land; he died on his farm in 1827, having reared a family of four sons and six daughters. Of his sons, Lewis W. RALSTON was born in Adams County, Penn., November 30, 1806, and was educated in Jefferson County, Ohio, spending his boyhood days on the farm with his parents. In 1828 he married Miss Ann DARR, of Jefferson County, Ohio, and they became the parents of three children, of whom two died when quite young, and one, John N., died at the age of eighteen. In 1832 Mrs. Ann RALSTON died, and same year Mr. RALSTON married Miss Eleanor, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (SCOTT) MOORHEAD; the MOORHEADs were of Irish descent, but William MOORHEAD was born in West Virginia. Lewis W. RALSTON, after his marriage, came to German Township, Harrison County, and purchased the farm our subject now owns. He departed this life September 6, 1884. He held many offices of trust in German Township, and was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church for forty-one years. He was the father of six children by his second wife, as follows: Andrew, who died in infancy; Elizabeth, who died at twenty-five years of age; Lewis B., our subject, born February 16, 1839; Ruth and Sophia (twins), who both died in infancy; and Mary E., wife of James BOSLEY, a carpenter, in Springfield, Ohio. Lewis B. RALSTON lived on the farm with his parents till their death, receiving his education at Hopedale College, Harrison County, and at Martinsburg Academy, in Knox County, Ohio. January 8, 1861, he married Miss Maria V. SANDERS, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (OLIVER) SANDERS, former of whom was a native of England, and latter of Scotland, both coming to Ohio in 1830. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. RALSTON have been born three children, viz.: One daughter who died in infancy; one son, Walter Sanders, who died at the age of twenty years; and Elizabeth E., at home. Lewis B. RALSTON is one of the most extensive breeders of fine sheep in Harrison County, and socially and financially holds a high position. He has held the office of justice of the peace for six years, was clerk of German Township eleven years, and is ruling elder int he Presbyterian Church, of which his wife and daughter are also members.
